You know how it is – you say you’re going to bed early, and before you know it, it’s past midnight and you’re still up getting stuff done. Or even if you do manage to crawl into bed at a decent hour, you’re up tossing and turning anyway, because you have a million things running through your mind.
Trust me, I do one or the other every single night.
It recently got bad enough that I decided that I needed to find ways to unwind and relax before I ended my day because my days were starting to suffer, and I was drinking way too much caffeine. Here are my favorite things to help knock me out:
I try to have some tea a couple of hours before bed while I’m working on my computer. The warmth of it in my belly just seems to put me in a snuggly mood, and soon I find myself ready to leave front of my computer. If you’re looking for a good one, try this tea by Traditional Medicinals.
I find that having my room smell nice makes me want to be in it. It sounds like such a stupid-simple concept, but sometimes if you luxe your room a little, it makes you want to be in it more. I particularly like this one from Diptyque – it’s my favorite scent. I’ve also discovered this great oil blend by Young Living which works wonders on me: I apply their Peace and Calming oil to the soles of my feet or in my diffuser, and no kidding, I am in a deep slumber and am super well rested. I have also found that it works on Olive, too. BONUS.
My favorite recipe for an awesome bath: Dim Lights, Bath Oil, a Face Mask and 20 minutes of uninterrupted quiet.
Hail Mary Move: Melatonin:
Okay, so there are some days where none of the above will work on me – I’m just too wound up, and I need something a little more…..well, something more foolproof. My last resort is going to be Melatonin supplements, which help me fall asleep, and stay asleep through the night. Melatonin is a natural hormone that is produced by the body which helps you with your sleep and wake cycles. If you’re in the market to try these, please discuss with your healthcare professional before you do! When you get the go ahead, you might want to try these melatonin supplements
Oh, and have you seen this floating around the web? It claims to help you fall asleep in under a minute….what do you think?
